Samsung and other Android devices have supported RCS (Rich Communication Services) for many years, and finally, iPhones are joining the party too.

Apple devices with iOS 18.1 also support this service, which is the cross-platform successor to SMS and MMS. Samsung posted several videos showing its benefits.

The new standard allows instant sharing of high-quality photos with a simple click, easy responses to other messages, and advanced group chats.

For RCS messaging to work, Android and iOS users who want to communicate together must have Google Messages installed and RCS enabled in Settings. The “Send photos faster” option can also turn off HQ image quality.

Reactions, quotes, and sharing work just like any other messaging platform – WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Instagram Direct, Snapchat, Viber, Telegram, etc.

The difference that makes Google Messages so special is that you don’t need a social media account; You can only send messages to others using your phone number.
