Gigabyte GS27Q Gaming Monitor Review: A Great Gaming Monitor with minor shortcomings

Budget gaming monitors have traveled a long way and now pack the features once reserved for the flagship model – and all of 20K value within the bracket. While high-end monitors now provide the QD-Old Panel, HDMI 2.1, and displayport 2.1, the budget options remain an exciting place for both console and PC gamers. It brings us neatly Gigabyte GS27QIt is a 27-inch 1440P IPS monitor with a 165Hz refresh rate (170Hz), 1 MS response time and solid connectivity. But is it the best that you can reduce by ₹ 20k in India?

Major specifications at a glance

  • Display shape: 27 inches
  • Display resolution: 2560x1440p
  • Recent rate: 165Hz (OC to 170Hz)
  • Panel type: IPS
  • Claimed brightness: 300 Nits
  • Connectivity: 2 x HDMI 2.0 port, 1 x display 1.4, 1 x 3.5 mm audio port
  • height adjustment: No
  • Tilt adjustment: Yes (-5 ° ~+20 °)
  • Underlying audio: No

design

The simple and subtle is the best way to describe the design of the monitor. It has relatively thin boundaries on three sides, with gigabyte branding the most thick bezel. It has a slim profile (for its price) and has a minimum stand that is easy to install. While the inclination is adjustment, there is no height adjustment in the monitor, it is not something that I need because the height “fits a size” is made on all factor that we have come to expect from the budget monitor.

Under the gigabyte branding, we have the standard single-button joystick that is used to turn/off the monitor as well as to navigate the settings. It is easy to use. Connectivity options and power port monitors are at the bottom, below. If table-mounting is not your thing, you can also mount the monitor to the wall.

HDR performance

Before we get into the flesh of the case, let’s get out of the way an important factor – HDR performance. The monitor does not have a dimming zone and has a 300 knuckle shine. This is corresponding to most of the budget TVs reviewed by us, and HDR performance of the monitor is fine.

Do not expect retina-burn brightness or conversely we have seen from Gigabyte Aerus CO49DQ gaming monitor (review). When you can play the game on this monitor in HDR and see the material, I recommend to switch to excessive SDR, as it gives the best experience.

Audio

The monitor does not have a built -in speakers, which may be a delreaker for something. However, given the average quality of most monitor speakers, this is not a huge loss. If you are using a monitor for a console or PC gaming, I recommend connecting it with a good set of 2.1 speakers or headphones. Fortunately, the GS27Q has a 3.5 mm audio output, making it easier to add external speakers or headphones.

Display

Let us break the performance into 4 sections – PC gaming, console gaming, content consumption and productivity.

PC gaming

For PC gaming, I tilted the monitor for the Dale Alienware X16 R2, whose glasses and reviews you can see here. I played something on PC Balders Gate 3, Gears tactis, Baltro Anything else Indiana Jones and The Great CircleAll games look absolutely amazing and thanks to Nvidia Gefforce RTX 4090 in alienware, I could enjoy all the glory of re-trading on the monitor with acceptable Framrets. While I used DLSS to upscale the game, experience on the monitor was sublime.

Gears strategy is a slightly old game, so it is getting to perform on a native 1440p resolution, with all settings maximum, I easily crossed the 170Hz threshold of the monitor. While the game has a lot of dark environments, I noticed something blooming in a pitch-dark room, but switched to a light in the room, and the problem goes away. However, it is important to note that Blooming is a common issue with IPS panels, especially with a low opposite ratio. It is not necessary that this specific monitor is a blame.

Of course, many gamers will look at this monitor even for competitive shooters, so I also tested Dramatic With this monitor. As expected, the 170Hz refresh comes to the clutch, and I was easily able to offend the enemies. 1MS response time is certainly not fastest, but for the price tag, I am not complaining, and most people will not be able to notice the difference.

Console gaming

I tilted both my PS5 and Xbox series X to monitor some console gaming. The monitor comes only with the HDMI 2.0 port, so we cannot expect to avail the HDMI 2.1 features offered on the console. On both PS5 and Xbox Series X, you can leave the resolution at 1440p or 1080p in settings for a high fresh rate, but I have a different suggestion that gave me a stellar experience on monitor. Place the resolution output of the console at 4K. In this way, you are targeting the best resolution offering console. And since the monitor is 1440p, the image will be brought to 1440p, allowing a crisp image and about 60fps for most games.

I played games like Marvel’s Spider Man 2, Dirt 5, Astro bot And Shafts and Clans On the monitor, and it all works very well. The image with reds and blues in Spider-Man’s suit was very good and looked alive. Up to Grand Tourismo 5I played a music rally race in the night settings, and there were scenes in the game that became popped. The shafts and cluans have some fast-transactions, and the reaction was butter-chicken on the monitor.

Proceeding on Xbox, Wishes of ORI and WISPS There is a stunning game to test, and the scene did not disappoint here either. The cherry on the cake was that the game was presented up to 1400p on performance at 60fps at 6K, which really became sublime from a visible perspective.

Material consumption

I played a standard sleeve of materials including TV shows and films on monitor, and the experience was surprisingly good. You get a good amount of adaptation options including pictures like standard and film. I consumed most of the materials while maintaining the monitor in the film preset, maintained the glow completely and turned into coloring the color temperature. Consume tv show Young Sheldon Or SuccessionI chose the standard preset because it works well. Monitor settings are well placed and easy to navigate.

Productivity

Even when it comes to productivity, the monitor works quite well. Since it is 1440p, the text is crisp and easy to read, it is well on websites or while writing documents, the monitor works well for basic multitasking and with 45 tabs open in Chrome, I can quite well navigate. You can also play with settings to reduce glow and control the color temperature for a comfortable experience during long productivity sessions.

Decision

Let’s answer the question of Rs 20,000. Should you buy Gigabyte GS27Q? Answer depends on what you are seeing. As writing this review, the price of the monitor is Rs 19,300 on Amazon, and some options are available with a homogeneous specifications on this price range. What Gigabyte GS27Q has done for this is SDR, decent connectivity options very good photo quality and very good overall performance for the consumption of gaming, productivity and content at the price point. The work that works against it is an average HDR performance.

Editor’s rating: 8/10

Professionals:

  • With gaming -good SDR performance for consumption of materials
  • Decent connectivity options
  • Hard stand

Shortcoming:

  • HDR performance is average
  • Lack of height adjustment
