An iPhone 14 Pro Max in Shanxi, China reportedly exploded resulting in severe burns to a woman while she was sleeping. According to the Hui Bang Mang program by Shanxi Radio and Television, the incident occurred around 6:30 AM when the woman was asleep with the phone charging nearby. Upon being informed, the customer service team at Apple expressed concern about the issue. The story was reported by Chinese news website MyDrivers.

• According to the report, the woman placed her hand on her iPhone 14 Pro Max while turning over and accidentally touched the flames, resulting in severe burns.
• The woman woke up to smoke and fire and the iPhone was completely damaged.
• The aftermath of the incident showed significant damage, where the apartment walls were completely blackened by smoke and the bed was burned, MyDrivers reports..

Apple’s response

Apple’s customer service team expressed concern and expressed the need to retrieve the phone for analysis to understand the cause of the malfunction despite it being out of warranty.

At this moment, it is not clear whether the battery on the iPhone 14 Pro Max was original or if it was replaced through any prior repairs that might have compromised the integrity. The company emphasised its commitment to investigating any potential safety issues related to its products.
