Burnout Test: CPU Throttling

The phone sees a drop in performance when stressed with intensive tasks like high-end gaming. To analyze how performance varies in such conditions, we conducted a burnout test on both the OnePlus 13R and Vivo V40 Pro, which involved running a loop for eight to nine minutes to determine CPU, GPU, and NPU throttling under heat. But millions of calculations were done. And stress.

In our testing, the OnePlus 13R and Vivo V40 Pro dropped to 67 percent and 46 percent of their peak performance, respectively, by the end of the stress test.

burnout cpu throttling67.8%46.3%

Looking at the burnout test graphs of both the phones, we saw that the CPU performance of the OnePlus 13R was at its highest at the beginning and dropped below 50 percent shortly after and remained that way till the end of the test. The Vivo V40 Pro, on the other hand, saw a gradual decline in CPU performance over time. Similar instances were seen in the GPU and NPU performance of both the handsets, where the OnePlus 13R exhibited a sudden drop and performed at a lower level, while the Vivo V40 Pro consistently tried to increase its performance levels.

Real World Context: With graphical representation of CPU, GPU and NPU based on throttling percentage. The OnePlus 13R offers better overall performance and the battery thermals also remain cooler than the Vivo V40 Pro.

Winner: oneplus 13r

Gaming: The Real World

With the synthetic benchmark tests done, let’s now compare the real-world gaming performance of both the phones with the help of the statistics obtained in our testing. Three games were played for 30 minutes each, which included COD Mobile, Real Racing 3 and BGMI.

In terms of device temperatures, the OnePlus 13R was significantly warmer than the Vivo V40 Pro in both COD Mobile and Real Racing 3. As far as BGMI is concerned, the OnePlus smartphone recorded one degree Celsius higher temperature. So, if you are an avid gamer, the Vivo V40 Pro is a better phone as it manages thermals better.

Real world usage: In our gaming experience with both phones, the OnePlus 13R felt warmer in longer durations while offering slightly better FPS. However, the Vivo V40 Pro provided an equally good gaming experience as the average FPS across all games was always close to the maximum frame rate achieved as per the graphics settings.
Winner: Vivo V40 Pro

decision

If the test results are anything to go by, the OnePlus 13R emerged victorious over the Vivo V40 Pro. It consistently delivered better scores in every test and was equally impressive in real-world usage, like multitasking between apps and high-end gaming at top-tier graphics settings.

Although the Vivo V40 Pro lagged in the tests, it’s still a well-capable device for intensive daily use, as the Dimensity 9200 Plus running at its core is heavily optimized for its potential. It is also a better phone of the two for gaming as it heats up less than the OnePlus 13R. If you are looking for the best performance, you can go ahead with the OnePlus 13R. At the same time, Vivo V40 Pro is suitable for its excellent performance and other factors like camera.
