Realme is pushing its flagship game with determination. Following the launch of its first GT-series smartphone in India since earlier this July in 2018, the company has unveiled the Realme GT 7 Pro. The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s cutting-edge Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, which has been in the news for all the right reasons.
Adding to its appeal, the smartphone is competitively priced at Rs 59,999, offering impressive specifications for the price. Realme GT 7 Pro has a flagship-grade camera setup, powerful 5,800mAh battery, 8T LTPO panel and quick charging speed. Read on to know how the smartphone performs in the real world.
decision
The Realme GT 7 Pro is an excellent choice for those who want flagship-level performance, impressive battery life, and a great viewing experience without an incredibly high price. That said, its thermal management is average, and the camera system also needs a little improvement.
Design and performance
Realme has upgraded the design language of the GT7 Pro, making significant improvements over its predecessor GT6. The glossy back panel has been replaced with a sleek all-matte finish, giving the new GT-series smartphones a more sophisticated look. The device also has a large rectangular camera module, which is surrounded by a beveled border to hide that bulge. Still, the module protrudes significantly from the frame, causing the device to wobble when placed flat on a surface.
Having said that, the Realme GT 7 Pro feels well balanced and easy to hold with its flat edges and curved corners. I reviewed the Mars Orange color variant, which is a bit flashy but can be toned down by using the black silicone case included in the box. Alternatively, you can opt for the more understated Galaxy Gray color variant.
While the Realme GT 7 Pro weighs a bit heavy (about 220 grams), its slim profile (8.5 mm) and 3D curved glass on both the display and back panel ensure a comfortable grip and a smooth feel in the hand. Additionally, the handset is IP69-rated, making it more durable against water and dust than most other ultra-premium flagships, including iPhones.
smart fone | ip rating | weight | thickness |
realme gt7 pro | IP69 | 220.2 | 8.6 mm |
oneplus 12 | IP65 | 220 grams | 9.2mm |
Xiaomi 15 | IP68 | 189 grams | 8.1mm |
As for ports and connectivity options, the Realme GT 7 Pro is equipped with an IR blaster on the top edge for controlling home devices, while the bottom edge houses a USB Type-C port for charging. It delivers stereo sound through dual speakers, delivering impressive sound with a peak output of 83.3 decibels during our lab testing – maintaining excellent clarity even at 80 percent volume. The volume rocker and power button are ergonomically placed on the right spine, ensuring intuitive access without awkward hand positioning. Additionally, the phone features an ultrasonic under-display fingerprint scanner, which provides fast and seamless unlocking.
The Realme GT 7 Pro features a 6.78-inch AMOLED display, which is co-developed by Samsung and optimized to deliver better battery performance. It is an LTPO 8T display that comes with FHD+ (2,780 x 1,264 pixels) resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, 6,500 nits peak brightness, and Corning Glass 7i protection. There are no complaints about this display. It delivers on its promise well with an impressive viewing experience and color reproduction both indoors and outdoors. The default color profile is balanced, but the phone offers the option to modify it from the Settings app and make it more impressive. While the curved edges and razor-thin bezels further enhance the viewing experience, the 3D curved glass above the display is slightly reflective when viewed from an outside angle.
smart fone | Display Size | extreme brightness |
realme gt7 pro | 6.78-inch 8T LTPO AMOLED | 6500 nits |
oneplus 12 | 6.82-inch LTPO AMOLED | 4500 nits |
Xiaomi 15 | 6.36-inch LTPO AMOLED | 3200 nits |
camera
Realme GT 7 Pro sports a triple camera setup with a 50MP OIS F/1.8 primary sensor, a 50MP telephoto 3x lens, and an 8MP f/2.2 ultrawide snapper. For selfies and video calling, the handset sports a 16MP snapper in a punch-hole setup. As seen in our detailed Realme GT 7 Pro camera review, images are detailed but show a tendency for overprocessing, sacrificing the natural appeal, in both daylight and low-light conditions. Additionally, colors often look vibrant, with the occasional boost, and portraits offer good edge detection. However, the handset’s ultrawide photography is average.
The front camera returns photos with sufficient detail, but skin tone is not always accurate. The phone offers a special ‘Underwater’ mode, which activates automatically when submerged in water or can be accessed manually from the ‘More’ pane in the camera viewfinder. Designed for underwater photography, this mode relies on an Aqua Touch display and an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner – ensuring the phone remains responsive underwater and acting as a shutter button. Pictures can also be taken using the physical button on the right side and the quality depends on the cleanliness of the water.
As far as videos are concerned, the Realme GT 7 Pro is capable of capturing 8k recording at 24fps. However, the phone does best at 4K 60fps in bright conditions.
Display and Software
The Realme GT 7 Pro is top-notch for its performance, which is taken care of by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset paired with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. In our synthetic benchmarks, it gets higher scores than the A18 Pro-powered iPhone 16 Pro. Based on the numbers, the GT7 Pro is a few inches longer than the China-spec Xiaomi 15, which draws power from the same Qualcomm SoC.
However, further optimization is needed via OTA software updates to increase heat dissipation and reduce performance throttling during intensive workloads.
Still, the Realme GT7 Pro handled everything it threw at without any issues, including games at high-end graphics and frame rate settings. I was able to play BGMI with Ultra HDR graphics and Ultra frame rate settings without any lag and stutters.
Realme has also added several AI features to improve the gaming and camera experience. Gaming Super Resolution, for example, enhances visuals by increasing a game’s resolution from the standard 720p to a maximum of 1.5K.
For cameras, there’s AI Eraser, now a key tool on many new-age smartphones, which lets you remove unwanted elements from images. Whereas,AI Unblur effectively sharpens blurry photos. Both features require an active Internet connection and produce satisfactory results, although some additional adjustments may be required to achieve more natural-looking results.
Realme GT 7 Pro comes with a Sketch-to-AI feature, which is inspired by Galaxy AI for drawing objects on images. The feature does a passable job – it works whenever it can, but not as impressively as the latest Samsung foldable and S-series smartphones.
smart fone | pre-installed apps | os update |
realme gt7 pro | 58 | 3 years major + 4 years security |
oneplus 12 | 41 | 4 years major + 5 years security |
Xiaomi 15 | 28 | 3 years major + 4 years security |
Software-wise, the Realme GT 7 Pro boots the latest Android 15 with the custom Realme UI 6.0 skin as the base. The OEM has reduced the pre-installed third-party apps to just five, which includes popular options like Amazon, Myntra and Facebook.
While the overall user experience remains mostly familiar, you get, among other things, new icons to customize the lock screen with text and images, Flux themes (similar to iOS), and seamless data transfer across platforms using the O+ Connect app. Touch to share is available for Rs. , Other notable enhancements include Live Alerts – a pill-shaped notification around the punch-hole camera that provides instant updates on Zomato or Swiggy order status, music playback, game timer, personal hotspot activity and more.
The handset is guaranteed to have three years of major OS updates and four years of security patches, ensuring that it will remain relevant until 2028. This may be better as OEMs are gradually promising at least four major Android update cycles.
Battery and Charging
The Realme GT 7 Pro excels in battery performance with its large 5,800mAh unit, which comfortably lasts a whole day even after heavy usage. The handset consumed 21 percent overall during our YouTube video streaming and gaming tests. Additionally, its results in the PCMark battery and charging speed tests outstripped close rivals like the OnePlus 12 and Xiaomi 15, solidifying its position as the leader in battery efficiency. The GT7 Pro takes about 40 minutes to charge from 20 percent to full 100 percent. You can read more about the battery performance of the smartphone in our detailed review.
smart fone | charging speed | Charging time (20-100 percent) |
realme gt7 pro | 120W | 29 minutes |
oneplus 12 | 100W | 40 minutes |
Xiaomi 15 | 90W | 38 minutes |
final call
The Realme GT 7 Pro is a solid addition to Realme’s flagship lineup, successfully blending powerful hardware, cutting-edge software, and an impressive set of features at a very competitive price point.
With its Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, stunning 6.78-inch AMOLED display and versatile camera setup, this smartphone makes a compelling case for users looking for top-tier performance without the ultra-premium price. Other standout features of the smartphone include IP69 rating, 120W fast charging, and AI-enhanced capabilities that further add to its appeal.
However, some aspects such as the camera’s tendency to overprocess images and thermal management under intense workloads could benefit from further refinement via OTA updates. Despite these minor shortcomings, the Realme GT 7 Pro offers an overall good experience that is unmatched by competitors (yet).
