Samsung foldable gaming console design revealed in new patent

According to details of the patent document, Samsung may be working on a device that could help the company enter the handheld gaming market. If such a device from the South Korean tech conglomerate is launched in the future, it would compete with existing offerings, such as the Nintendo Switch, Asus ROG Ele X, and Steam Deck. Unlike these devices, Samsung’s handheld gaming console may have a foldable design, making it much easier to carry around.

How might Samsung’s electronic games console work?

A patent document ,through 91Mobiles) The “Electronics Games Console” title assigned to Samsung Display describes a design for a handheld gaming device, along with several images that show the design of the alleged console from multiple angles, as well as some of its features.

Figure 8 in the patent document shows that Samsung’s handheld gaming console could have the same form factor as the company’s existing foldables – the Galaxy Z Flip series. As a foldable device, it could offer a huge advantage over other handheld consoles in the market.

While it looks similar to a clamshell-style foldable phone, other images (like Figure 1) suggest it will include other components like a joystick. Meanwhile, Figure 2 and Figure 3 give us an idea of where these bulges are located so that both parts can be closed.

It’s clear that Samsung is describing a foldable gaming console, which means it will have to offer some protective technology to keep the display safe during use. Figure 3 shows what a crease looks like on a display

According to the images present in the patent document, some buttons and controls may be visible on the sides of the device when the device is folded (Figure 11 and Figure 12). Meanwhile, Figure 13 clearly shows us the hinge that connects both parts of the folding device.

Although the presence of the patent document is no indication of whether Samsung will actually launch the product described in the document, it will be interesting to see how such a device would perform in the market.
